Design for PRINT
Personas are fictitious characters that we created to represent the different user types within a targeted demographic that might use a site or a product. Creating personas put personal human face on otherwise abstract data about the users which helps us share a consistent understanding of various target audience groups. Personas help designers to infer what a real user might need as they are easy to communicate across the team and thus allow engineers, developers and other team members to absorb customer data.
Personas build virtual users in our minds and we assign specific demographic to each persona. Therefore when we assign a name to a persona, we refer to the virtual user in our minds. By always asking, "Would Ron use this?" the team can avoid the trap of building what users ask for rather than what they will actually use.
A persona usually includes:
- Demographics (age, education, ethinicity, family status)
- Job title and major responsibilities
- Goals and tasks in relation to your product
- Environment (Physical, Technological, Social)
